This week during the State Testing for sophomores Mr. Axtell had his freshmen working hard on a different project. They built raised flower beds for a community garden being sponsored at the Elementary School

Our KFHS Forestry team went to state. We took 13th out of 18 teams which is pretty good considering it was our 1st year. The kids competed in compass and pacing, general knowledge, chainsaw parts/safety/operation, tree ID, tool ID, disorder/disease ID, and timber cruising.

On Tuesday the 22nd, Rick Hanson from Boise Cascade came in and set up a compass and Pacing course for the forestry class to work through. He helped them figure out their pace, reviewed how to use a compass, and walked them through the steps needed to get the azimuth and distance of each portion of the course. This was a really good experience for all students.

KFHS is lucky to have these three amazing ladies. Last week we celebrated Secretaries Day and we are highlighting them again today! Thank you for everything that you do for our kids.

On April 19, 2025, four high school students traveled to the Fashion Industry Conference held at Central Washington University in Ellensburg. Cheyenne Mullins won the fashion construction contest with her dress that she designed and made.

A huge thank you to everyone who came out and donated blood today! Thanks to your generosity, Vitalant collected 19 units of blood — and since each unit can potentially save three lives, that means 57 lives could be saved because of YOU! 💪❤️
We’re so proud of our amazing community and grateful for your support in helping FCCLA make a real difference. Together, we are saving lives! 🙌

Six of our high achieving senior girls were invited to the PEO Luncheon yesterday. This is an opportunity for them to meet like minded community members and possibly earn a scholarship. Congratulations!

KFHS Art Teacher Ms. Maier took her students who entered the ESD student Art Show down to Spokane to see all of the exhibits. Sierra Kolar won an Honorable Mention is her category.

The greenhouse is filled with flowers and vegetables for the return of the Mother's Day sale. Friday afternoon May 9th at 3:15!

Today our forestry team competed in the Stevens County Forestry Contest against teams from multiple schools around the area in several events including; a general knowledge exam, chainsaw knowledge/safety, forestry tool identification, tree identification, disease identification, compass and pacing, and timber cruising. Despite having only two members (compared to the other teams 4-5 members) they earned second place in the team timber cruising event. This event tests the students' ability to determine the average number of board feet that can be gotten out of a specified stand of trees. This task requires a knowledge of how to use several forestry tools as well as how to apply mathematical concepts to real life scenarios.

Textiles class today was working on their projects. Many of them will be on display at the Clash of the Arts later this spring.

Boise Cascade visited and our students learned about all the career opportunities there!

This year we have four students at SCC in Colville enrolled in the welding program during their senior year of HS. Next year's applicants were visiting the program today with the current students and staff from the HS.

The Horticulture class was busy making floral arrangements last week before Valentine's day. The class is popular with the students and we are glad to have it back in the schedule as an option for our kids.
