"Paleontologist at Work!” 2nd grade students went on their annual adventure to the Stone Rose Fossil dig site in Republic, WA. It was an exciting day, as students got to use their classroom learning about fossils and do fieldwork to find real fossils.

Honoring our country's veterans is important to us at KFES! Students participate in activities such as making cards for veterans, joining in a school wide assemble to learn and sing about the Veterans Day holiday, and much more. One student got to hand his dad a card personally. THANK YOU Veterans for serving and protecting us!!! 🇺🇸

Remember those pumpkins grown by the 2nd Grade last Spring? One was a GIANT! Students had a chance to guess the weight of the pumpkin, and have that pumpkin carved in class for Halloween. The student with the closest guess would also lead the Costume Parade. One guess was spot on - 53 pounds! Congratulations to Mrs. Hoover's class 🎃.

The Elementary School Halloween Costume Parade is always fun. Look at all the great costumes!

The Elementary School knows how to celebrate Fall with Halloween parties in every classroom and fun crafts like mirror pumpkins and water color pumpkins!

In Mrs. Donnelly's class, all 4th grade students have been learning about Washington State. They have learned about the geography, the climate, our economics, the natural resources, and other important facts and information for the 5 regions. One of many activities was to create a bulletin board sized mural showing what they have learned.

ELC students enjoys some Halloween festivities! 🎃

Check out the KFES costume cuties! We have been celebrating Spirit Week leading up to Homecoming along with the high school.

During Kindergarten's first Adventure down at Locust Grove on Lake Roosevelt, they were the first grade level to try out the new strider bikes. Other activities on the adventure included a hike, animal yoga, sand exploration, time on the playground, and even investigating a dead bull snake! They named it Sky 🙂 .

"Growing Kindness" KFES para educators have been handing out kindness bracelets all over school to students they catch being kind. At All School Crew those students have been filling a marble jar to show how we are growing kindness in our students. All School Crew is an assembly with all grades at the start of the day every Wednesday in our lunch room.

2nd Grade students read the book 'The Dot' in their literacy work. Then they discussed making their own mark with the prompt "Make your mark and see where it takes you". Students used their creativity to made their own dots into a beautiful school hallway mural. How do you make your mark on the world?

We are so excited to learn more science this year! 4th Grade has focused on investigating energy transfers, collisions, and variables with the question “Why an object's motion changes?” 2nd Grade has studied erosion and conservation. The Piping Plover is disappearing from beaches, so students were studying reasons why there are fewer birds. They are specifically looking at the effects water and wind have on beaches.

3rd Grade students participated in the annual Water Festival recently. Students spent half the day at Locust Grove and half the day at the Sherman Creek Fish Hatchery learning facts about Lake Roosevelt and about water topics such as water cycles, fish species, hydrology, checking stream health, water safety, invasive species, raising hatchery fish, riparian zoning, and the differences between predators, prey, and omnivores. This event was hosted by local agencies including the Colville and Sherman Creek Fish Hatcheries, Lake Roosevelt Parks Service, Tribal Fish Department, Avista Power, Washington Department of Fish & Wildlife, and the Kettle Falls Historical Center, represented by Dwight Morgan, a local historian.

Students have been learning about respect using our Character Strong curriculum. Today Kindergarten students looked at a picture that shows respect, had a discussion about respect and then colored the picture. How do you show respect?

Last Spring, 2nd Grade students planted a pumpkin patch at the school as part of their Pollinator Science Unit. Today, as 3rd Graders, they were able to harvest a bumper crop! Students delivered a pumpkin to each classroom.

Some freshly coated 1st grade scientists working on the elementary school's new OpenSciEd curriculum.

Starting School! During their successful first three weeks of Transition to Kindergarten, students have played, read books and made friends.

At Kettle Falls Elementary we have started to explore more in science. 3rd Graders got to explore Balance and Motion in science. They created classroom Agreements, and Notice and Wonders. They also got to be hands on experimenting with their balancing kits. Students will make observations and of an objects motion to provide evidence that a pattern can be used to predict future motion while studying forces and interactions.

How do you start your day? Students in Ms. Munds Kindergarten class, like all the other grade levels at the elementary school, start the school day with a Crew meeting to build character and community. Some activities included in their Crew meetings are the Pledge of Allegiance, a “Hello Friends” song, and a "How are you feeling today?" check before starting more challenging tasks.

Welcome Back to School! The room was full of smiles in Mrs. Singer’s Kindergarten class.
