It’s National School Counseling Week, and we are shouting out our very own elementary counselor, Ryan Newby!

Whether he’s helping a student navigate a tough day, teaching a CharacterStrong lesson on kindness, or greeting everyone with a smile in the hallways, Mr. Newby makes our elementary school a brighter, safer place to learn. We are so lucky to have him on our campus!

Our 4th-grade scientists took a deep dive into flower anatomy this week! By studying the internal structures of plants, students explored how each part contributes to a flower's growth and life cycle. They practiced their scientific observation skills by drawing detailed cross-sections in their lab notebooks, carefully labeling each part from the petals to the pollen-bearing structures. It’s wonderful to see such precision and curiosity from our young learners!

Between the snowball unwrapping and the intense rounds of Pass the Present, the energy was 10/10. Huge shoutout to the teachers for being such good sports! We hope everyone has a wonderful and restful holiday season!

We are thrilled to share that our first-grade students are diving into an exciting new skill: telling time!

They are actively learning the difference between the hour hand and the minute hand, and understanding how to read both analog and digital clocks. This is a foundational life skill that also reinforces their counting and number recognition.

Ask your student tonight: "What time do the hands say?" You might be surprised by how much they've already learned!

Ms. Mitchell's literary detectives are hard at work! This week, they're not just reading poetry about bats—they're exploring how authors use words like paintbrushes to create vivid scenes and strong feelings for the reader.

Our 4th graders are becoming experts at pulling out text evidence to identify words and phrases that specifically help us visualize the setting, such as describing a "mossy cave" or "midnight sky," and words that create a specific mood, like using vocabulary that makes the poem feel "eerie" or "peaceful." It's all about understanding the writer's craft! They're learning that every word choice is intentional, directly impacting how we picture the story and how we feel while reading it.

This week, they are focused on creating self-portraits, learning important techniques such as understanding facial symmetry—how the face is balanced—and accurately sketching features like eyes, noses, and mouths in the right spots. They are doing a wonderful job observing themselves and translating their unique features onto the paper.

Our talented student artists have been diving into some challenging but rewarding work: drawing people! This week, they are focused on one of the most fundamental skills in figure drawing: proportions.

It’s not easy to capture the human body accurately, but our students are learning about scale, measuring key features, and understanding how different parts of the body relate to one another.

We are so proud of their focus and dedication as they tackle these advanced concepts! Keep an eye out for their amazing finished portraits and figures.
