KFMS has a goal that we work on daily… “At KFMS, we demonstrate kindness, responsibility, and teamwork increasing our sense of belonging, growth mindset, and the value service plays in our lives, schools, and community.” As a school we work on structures to help support the students and staff in achieving this goal. Every quarter, Mrs. Hooper places students at different lunch tables where they were able to choose 1-2 friends that they wanted to sit with. It is very important at KFMS that we do everything possible to make sure that students have a sense of belonging and no student is left out or alone.

The KFMS team traveled to Mt. Spokane this month to complete with other Mathletes in a Math is Cool competition. Our 7th grade team scored 3rd place overall. Charles Kelly was award 6th place for his top individual score. Piper Richartz and Charles Kelly received Best in School for our 6th and 7th grade teams. Congratulations!
Our 5th grade team will compete later this spring!

KFMS staff members made sure that EVERY student in the school received a Valentine on Valentine’s Day. Our KFMS goal includes… “… increasing our sense of belonging…” Intentional connections through small acts of kindness can help everyone feel like they belong.

KFMS honored the passing of Toby Keith by encouraging staff and students to wear country gear. The most liked song for students and staff was, “I Should Have Been a Cowboy.” The music was played all day long in the office with students, visitors, and staff singing along.

The KFMS library is full of interesting and exciting books. Mrs. Read is very responsive to requests and interests of our middle school students to get them engrossed in reading imaginary or real adventures. The language classes visit Mrs. Read and check out books at least once a week as part of their independent reading time during their Humanities class. One of the favorite books is part of a series… “Glass Sword,” by Victoria Aveyard. It tells a story of people that have superpowers depending on the color of their blood. Tamika reports that it is very interesting and hard to put down! Thank you, Mrs. Read for your dedication to KFMS!

🎉 Celebrating National Girls and Women in Sports Day! 🏆
Today, we honor the incredible achievements and contributions of girls and women in the world of sports. From breaking records to shattering stereotypes, female athletes inspire us all with their dedication, passion, and skill.
We are proud of all of our Lady Bulldog athletes!

Lunch at KFMS is always fun! Students report that pizza, chicken nuggets, orange chicken, nachos, pretzels, and mozzarella sticks are their favorite. Do you remember your favorite hot lunch?

KFMS received their new t-shirts last week that were designed by the ASB. All staff and students are encouraged to wear their shirts every Friday! Go Bulldogs!

KFMS held their annual food drive last month. Every year the ASB challenges the advisory classes to follow Martin Luther King, Jr’s example of serving others and bring in “heavy” food. Mrs. Phillips’ 6th grade advisory class won the competition with donating 138 pounds of food! KFMS donated 593 pounds of food overall to the Community Chest. What is your favorite act of service to others?

The KFMS Community Based Robotics teams did great this weekend. The RoboPups brought home the Robot Design award and won the robot game with a score of 345. The RoboDogs brought home the Motivate Award and came in 3rd in the robot game with a score of 300. We’re super proud of all the hard work they did and all they’ve accomplished.

Kettle Falls School District has two certified First Aid/CPR trainers that are able to keep our staff and coaches up to date on their safety. Brayden Flugel and Shai Ah Loo traveled to the ESD in Spokane to be trained by Don Ebert, the region’s trainer. After Don observed them teaching, they were certified and able to teach on their own. Thank you Brayden and Shai for your service to our district!

KFMS classes are keeping busy inside during this cold and wet weather. Mr. Kroiss keeps the kids moving through games like Rock, Paper, Scissors and Lightning. Rock, Paper, Scissors is modified and you must jump to form the item. Lightning is an age old game at KFMS. I’m sure many of you played it under the direction of Mr. Fred!

KFMS Boys’ Basketball held their first competition last week. The JV team played very hard against St. George and only lost by a couple baskets. The Varsity team won with a very impressive lead. Please come join us cheer them on! Call the office for the home game schedule! Go Bulldogs!

KF RoboDogs are getting ready for their next competition at EWU at the end of January. One of their contests is an Innovation Project which includes a presentation in front of judges. The team invited their principal, Mrs. Vining, to give them feedback on their presentation. This team earned their way to the EWU competition through their excellent performance last fall at the regional competition. We wish the RoboDogs luck at their next event!

What do you do for outdoor recess when it’s below zero outside? You come in and play card games and hang out with your friends! KFMS students had a great time inside this week during the freezing weather!

KFMS has the best support staff! These ladies help the school run smoothly each and everyday. They are responsible for additional help in the classrooms, maintaining peace and safety on the playground, pulling students from class for small or individual work, making sure students get across the street in a safe manner, and any other job that needs an extra hand. They spend intentional time building relationships with all of the students by getting to know them on a personal level and have even been known to support the students at afterschool events! KFMS students are very lucky! Please help us thank them for their dedication!

Who really runs KFMS? Hang out for a couple of days and you'll know it's the secretaries! Stephanie and Jamie know it all and do it all! They make sure that the school runs smoothly and that all feel welcome. Please make sure to thank them for their kindness and everything that they do for the staff, students, and community the next time you stop by!

Students at KFMS spend two days a week in a 30-minute Advisory class. Teachers use the Character Strong curriculum to lead students through social and emotional topics. Today students in different grade levels spoke about stress, gratitude, emotions, items that are important to them and experiences in their lives where they had to persevere to learn something new. This week’s student Character Dare is to give an indirect compliment. This would be telling your teacher that they noticed how they had helped their friend learn something new. Try this out in your life and increase your compliments of those around you!

KFMS held their first assembly of 2024. We welcomed Sean Kelly as one of our new School Security Officers and students got to play dodgeball with their teachers. The sixth grade students won the class yell with “2030” as the loudest chant in the gym! Do you remember your class chant?

KFMS Students spent the last hour of the 2023 school year in activities throughout the building. They got to choose from BINGO, a Photo Booth, Spikeball, Christmas Treats, movies, Cornhole, art activities, hula hoop, board games, Twister, and card games. We hope that everyone has a great break from school.
