The 8th grade students celebrated the end of the school year and their promotion to high school with a trip to Silverwood. Thank you to Mr. Flugel, Mr. Kroiss, Mrs. Buckmiller, Mrs. Purvis, Mrs. St. Clair, and Mrs. Crumpler for chaperoning and making sure that the students had a great time. I wonder if any of the adults rode Aftershock?
Every year KFMS 8th grade students complete a passage presentation where they present themselves and their work to a group of community panelists. The Seventh Day Adventist Church across the street allows us to use their Sunday School rooms for this interview. The presentation includes a PowerPoint presentation, an interview, and feedback for students on future presentations or interviews. We are very grateful for our community! Without the church and the community panelists we would not be able to offer our 8th graders this opportunity. Thank you!
Every year the Meyers Falls Cemetery Association makes sure that every grave has flowers on it for Memorial Day. The last two years our 6th grade students have been asked to help box up the flowers. Part of our KFMS goal is "...increasing the value service plays in our lives, schools, and community." We are honored to serve our community!
KFHS brought their robot, Joules, to the middle school for a visit. Students got to listen to how the team worked together to build and program the robot, see how the robot worked, and ask questions. 8th grade students were encouraged to join the robotics team next year. They also acknowledged the KFMS team and the success that they've had at their different contests.
Sit with me! Part of the KFMS goal is for students to have a "sense of belonging." One way that we try to help with this is assigned tables at lunch. Every quarter students write down two student names that they would like to sit with. Mrs. Hooper does some magic and places students with at least one friend. This assures that no student is left looking for an open seat and all kids feel like they belong.
5th grade students at KFMS spent last week in art painting rocks with "kindness quotes." Today they spread kindness on Build a Better World Day by scattering rocks around town. Look down while you are celebrating Town and Country Days this weekend...you just might find some kindness!
6th grade students participated in Build a Better World Day by creating stickers for the local coffee shops that encourage taking care of our world by not littering. Look for a sticker the next time you pick up a coffee from Ms. B's or Crandall's!

Some 8th grade students volunteered to climb Gold Hill with Mr. Flugel, Mr. Kroiss, and Mr. Graves to brighten the KF on the hill. They pulled the weeds around the rocks so Mr. Graves could paint. It looks great! Thank you!

KFMS students love the weather outside! Mr. Kroiss has been preparing the students for the Town and Country Days Grumpy Grouch Fun Run with running for 6 minutes at the beginning of each class period. He is challenging as many students as possible to join in on the race. Are you running the Grumpy Grouch fun run?
Come enjoy an evening of art with the Kettle Falls High School students on May 24, 2023, at 6:00 p.m. There will be music performed by band and choir members, a fashion show featuring the creations of textiles students. Students will also be displaying art, metal and wood shop projects, as well as decorated cakes.

Mrs. Gormon and Mrs. Brozik visited the 8th graders this week to share the class options at the high school next year as they transition in as Freshmen. They were able to rank order their electives and learn about the requirements to graduate. Horticulture, Independent Living, Welding, and Choir are some of the exciting classes that are offered at the high school. Students asked great questions about the classes and opportunities. What advice would give to incoming freshman?
As the 2023 school year comes to a close, we want to remind you about our band and choir end of the year concert! The students in this program have worked very hard to put together a fun concert for their families, friends, and peers to attend. There are selections from musicals, movies, and even popular tunes that you may recognize! Join us at the high school gymnasium on May 31st at 6 o'clock pm!
April is Autism Awareness Month! Students at KFMS participated in a coin drive and competition to raise money and awareness for Autism. On Friday Mr. Kroiss and Mrs. Walker counted the number of laps that students walked and the group that ran or walked the most laps earned some additional money into their coin jar. This challenge followed an Autism Awareness assembly last month where, Ms. Antoine shared about Autism and encouraged students to make a stand and treat everyone with kindness. We are still counting the change and trying to determine the winner. Ask a middle school student who they think won?
Kendle McGovern, Tirzah Schippers, Kara Wicks, and Charles Kelly traveled to Moses Lake to represent KFMS at the statewide Math is Cool Masters competition March 29th. Along the way they stopped at EWU for a campus tour. Our team claimed 2nd place in the pi division. Over 50 teams who qualified at their regional level competitions across the state where competing at this competition. Great work Kettle Falls mathletes!
The 7th grade art students at KFMS recently completed a unit on drawing and shading wolves. They used simple grids, colored pencils, and a visual reference. They first learned about shading and drawing by practicing light to dark shading on value scales and creating textured lines on a round surface. Students worked on a step by step process that took several days and paid special attention to the shape and details of the eyes, mouth, nostrils, and fur pattern over the gray areas. These wolves were on display in our hallways for conferences.
The Kettle Falls Elementary and Middle school students and staff participated in an all school challenge to be more understanding and including for Autism Awareness month in April. An assembly was given to each school to present information on autism and to begin the challenge. Each puzzle piece on the trees represents a student or staff who signed their name, saying they pledge to see past the label.
