💙💛 Build a Better World Day at KFSD 💛💙

Build a Better World Day is an annual tradition at KFSD and truly one of the best days of the school year! Students and staff across all grade levels at KFMS spent the day out in our community serving others, working together, and making a positive impact.

For the second year in a row, our 8th grade class designed and sold BBWD shirts and sweatshirts to the KFSD community to help raise funds for their end-of-the-year 8th grade trip. It has been incredible seeing students and staff proudly wearing their shirts while giving back to the community together.

Today was a great reminder of what makes KFMS special — kindness, responsibility, teamwork, service, and community pride.

We are so proud of our students and thankful to everyone who supported Build a Better World Day! #KFMSBulldogs #BuildABetterWorldDay #Service #CommunityPride

💙💛 Build a Better World Day at KFMS 💛💙

At KFMS we have a goal that guides the work we do every day:
“At KFMS we demonstrate kindness, responsibility, and teamwork, increasing our sense of belonging, growth mindset, and the value service plays in our lives, schools, and community.”

Today, that goal was fully in action. Every student at KFMS participated in Build a Better World Day by completing service projects throughout our community. Students spread kindness and positivity through projects like Kindness Rocks, inspirational coffee cup stickers, painting projects, freshening up the “KF,” cleaning local beaches, and creating inspirational signs for our community.

Today was a reminder that our students are capable of making a real difference. We are so proud of the teamwork, effort, kindness, and pride our Bulldogs showed while serving others. This truly is one of the best days of the school year!

🦸‍♂️🦸‍♀️ Unleash Your Super Powers! 💥📚

KFMS is in the middle of State Testing season! Our 5th and 8th grade students are taking tests in Science, Math, and English Language Arts, while our 6th and 7th grade students are taking Math and ELA assessments. With testing spread out over several weeks and built-in breaks, it takes almost three weeks to complete it all!

To kick things off with positivity and encouragement, Mrs. Hooper created a Super Hero testing theme for the school. Staff members started with a fun assembly skit reminding students to use their testing “Super Powers”:
💥 Read Carefully
💥 Show Your Work
💥 Never Give Up
💥 Stay Focused

Families also joined in by writing encouraging letters to their students, and Mrs. Hooper added special treats along the way — including mints because our students are “mint” for success! 🍬

Thank you to the entire KFMS staff for making this a celebration of learning and to all of our students for the hard work, perseverance, and positive attitudes they are showing throughout the month. We are proud of you! 💙💛

🎨✨ KFMS Artists Showing Their Superpowers! ✨🎨

Each year, students across the country participate in the Doodle 4 Google contest, where K–12 students create artwork inspired by a national theme for a chance to have their design featured on the Google homepage while also competing for scholarships and technology prizes. This year’s theme was “My Superpower Is…”

KFMS students submitted an incredible 29 logo entries to the competition! While we did not place among the national finalists selected from thousands of entries, we are extremely proud of the creativity, dedication, and hard work our students demonstrated throughout the process. Many students created multiple drafts and even worked at home to meet the contest deadline.

Our talented art students have also been busy with additional community design contests, including projects for the Colville Valley Animal Sanctuary and the KF Town & Country Days Slam Jam Basketball Tournament. Congratulations to Caitlyn and Yale, whose winning Slam Jam logo designs will be featured on t-shirts, social media, posters, and awards for the upcoming event! 🏀👏

We are so proud of our KFMS art students for the way they represent our school and community through their creativity, effort, and artistic talents! 💙💛

🚣‍♀️ Paddle Safe Program @ KFMS 🚣‍♂️

Our 6th grade students were excited for their Paddle Safe field trip out to Colville Flats, led by Alyssa Smith and her team from Paddle Safe WA. While this year looked a little different—with low water levels at Lake Roosevelt making it unsafe to launch kayaks—our students still had an incredible learning experience!

Even without getting on the water, students gained valuable knowledge about water safety, practiced teamwork, and stayed engaged throughout the day. A special thank you to the Stevens County Sheriff's Office for sending a deputy to join us and support this important learning opportunity.

It was a fantastic day filled with learning, teamwork, and outdoor fun. We’re grateful for the partnerships that make experiences like this possible for our students! 💙💛 #KFMS #OutdoorLearning #PaddleSafe

🍎 Teacher Appreciation Week at KFMS! 🍎

This week, schools across Washington State are celebrating the incredible impact of our teachers—and here at KFMS, we are all in! Throughout the week, our staff is being treated to coffees, goodies, and a little extra appreciation to recognize the dedication they bring to our students every single day.

Our teachers go above and beyond to build relationships, create engaging learning experiences, and support the growth of every student who walks through our doors. Their commitment to kindness, responsibility, and teamwork truly makes KFMS a special place.

Please join us in thanking our amazing teachers for all they do—this week and every week. 💙💛 #TeacherAppreciationWeek #KFMS #BulldogPride

🌞 Outside PE at KFMS! 🥏

This beautiful weather has our KFMS students and staff taking full advantage of the sunshine! Mr. Flugel and his PE classes have headed outside and kicked off a fun new unit that starts with Frisbee Golf and builds into Ultimate Frisbee—and the students are LOVING it! There’s nothing better than fresh air, movement, and a little friendly competition to keep everyone engaged and active.

It’s been great to see so many smiles, teamwork, and skill-building happening out on the field. The weather is perfect, and our Bulldogs are making the most of it!

🦸‍♂️🦸‍♀️ Superheroes at KFMS!
Our staff took the stage to motivate students for upcoming state testing with a fun skit titled “The Superhero Who Forgot His Powers.”
Students met four unforgettable characters: Captain Comprehension, Math Master, Professor Persistence, and the tricky Distractor Villain. Through different scenes, our heroes faced challenges and rediscovered the “powers” needed to succeed:
💥 Read Carefully
💥 Show Your Work
💥 Never Give Up
💥 Stay Focused
Each scene reminded students that when problems show up, they already have the tools to overcome them!
The message was simple and powerful:
👉 “The SBA isn’t scary… when you use your superpowers.”
KFMS will spend the first three weeks of May in testing, and we know it can feel long and overwhelming at times. That’s why we’ll continue to revisit these “superpowers” to support and encourage our students every step of the way.
We’re proud of our staff for bringing energy, creativity, and a little fun to help our students feel confident and ready.
You’ve got this, Bulldogs! 💙💛

🥧 Pie in the Face – KFMS Style! 😄

The 8th grade students at KFMS were just a couple hundred dollars short of their fundraising goal for their end-of-the-year trip to Silverwood… so they got creative!

Students sold tickets—1 for $0.50 or 3 for $1.00—and placed them in their favorite teacher’s container. The teacher with the most tickets would take a pie in the face at our assembly!
Mr. Flugel was in the lead and took the first pie… but in a last-minute twist, an anonymous donation came in to tie Mr. Hansen, and he got pied too! 🥧

Lots of laughter, great school spirit, and most importantly—$246.50 raised to help make the 8th grade trip happen!

Way to go, Bulldogs, and thank you to our staff for being such great sports! 💙💛

💙💛 Student Voice in Action at KFMS

Our ASB students are stepping into leadership in a powerful way! After reviewing results from a recent student survey, they identified an important area for growth—how negative interactions can impact a student’s sense of belonging at KFMS.

Working alongside the KFMS Leadership Team, ASB students helped develop and lead three advisory lessons focused on strengthening connection, inclusion, and positive peer interactions. These lessons are helping all students reflect on how their actions contribute to a stronger, more supportive school community.

This work doesn’t stop here! The ASB and Leadership Team will meet again next week to review student feedback and experiences from the lessons, using that information to plan next steps. Together, they’ll continue building ideas, actions, and school structures that support a positive culture where every student feels they belong.

Proud of our students for leading the way—this is what teamwork and responsibility look like in action! 🐾

⚾ KFMS Jr. High Baseball Update!

Last week, our 7th and 8th grade baseball team had a unique opportunity to play on the high school field after the weather turned their home field into a mud puddle right at home plate! 🌧️

Despite the change, the boys made the most of it and continue to learn and grow each day. Under the direction of Braxton Fitzsimmons and Lauren Davis, the team is building skills, teamwork, and a love for the game.

We’re proud of their flexibility, effort, and positive attitudes—way to represent KFMS! 💙💛

🥎 KFMS Softball is underway!

Our first home softball game was a cold one 🥶, but that didn’t stop our girls from showing up, competing hard, and supporting one another every inning!

We have an awesome turnout this year with 6th–8th grade students making up two teams. The girls are being coached by Cassie Carstens and Hailey Young, and it’s been great to see them learning new skills, building confidence, and growing as a team.

We’re proud of their effort, toughness, and positive attitudes—no matter the weather!

💙💛 Happy Administrative Professionals Day!

Today, we celebrate Administrative Professionals Day (Wednesday, April 22, 2026) and the incredible people who keep KFMS running smoothly—Stephanie and Jamie!

They are often the first to welcome our students each morning and the last to say goodbye at the end of the day. In between, they wear more hats than we can count—nurse, counselor, problem-solver, support for students, staff, and families, and even managing the principal’s calendar.

Everything they do, day in and day out, is centered around serving others and supporting our school community. We are incredibly lucky at KFMS to have two of the very best in our district.

Please take a moment this week—and every week—to thank Stephanie and Jamie for all that they do. We couldn’t do it without you! 🙌

During Spring Student-Led Conferences, our paraprofessionals from across KFSD came together for a day of learning and collaboration! 💙💛

Paras from all three buildings participated in training sessions designed directly from their survey feedback, ensuring the learning was meaningful and relevant to their daily work. Staff had the opportunity to attend three different sessions, followed by additional time back in their buildings to connect with teams and apply their new learning to real classroom situations.

Paraprofessionals truly are the glue that holds our schools together. Every minute of their day is dedicated to supporting students and staff, which makes these training opportunities so valuable—giving them time to slow down, learn, ask questions, and grow together.

We are incredibly grateful for our paraprofessionals and the impact they have on making KFSD such an amazing place for students to learn and thrive! 👏

Spring Student-Led Conferences at KFMS were a great success! 🎉
Over two days, our students took the lead—guiding their parents through their schoolwork, reflecting on the goals they set back in the fall, and sharing their growth. A big part of the conversation focused on iReady Math and Reading progress, effort rubrics, and science learning. It was powerful to see students take ownership of their learning and confidently talk about their progress and next steps.
What makes these conferences so special is that the students are truly in charge. Advisors are there to support, answer questions, and share report cards, but the learning story comes directly from the student. Parents also had the opportunity to provide feedback using our Student-Led Conference rubric—similar to the one used during 8th grade Passages—helping students build presentation skills, self-reflection, and goal-setting for the future.
Thank you to our families for the incredible turnout and support. We are proud of our Bulldogs for stepping up, sharing their voices, and owning their learning! 💙💛

🏃‍♂️ Community Support Needed – Track Improvements at KFMS/KFHS

Under the leadership of our high school track coach, Monty Jones, our track facility is getting an upgrade with improvements to the long jump pit. This has been a great effort that benefits both our high school and middle school athletes, with MS students and coaches pitching in to help along the way.

Coaches have placed signs around the area to protect the new work, but unfortunately the pit has still experienced some damage.

We’re asking for our community’s help in taking care of these shared spaces. Please help us respect and protect our school grounds so all of our students can continue to learn, practice, and compete in a safe and well-maintained environment.

We appreciate your support in keeping our facilities beautiful for everyone! 💙💛

🎉 Spring Break Send-Off at KFMS! 💙💛
The Friday before Spring Break, our students and staff came together for an afternoon full of energy, connection, and fun! We kicked things off with an all-school assembly where we recognized our spring sport athletes—good luck this season, Bulldogs! ⚾🥎🏃‍♂️
One of the highlights? Our class yells echoing through the gym—2030, 2031, 2032, and 2033! The spirit was loud and proud! 📣
👉 What’s your class yell?
After the assembly, students enjoyed rotating through activities around the school. From Trivia and Bingo to Basketball, Jump Rope, Science Experiments, and even Mario Kart—there was something for everyone! 🎮🏀🔬
A great way to send off our students and staff into a well-deserved Spring Break. We hope everyone had a fantastic week! 🌷☀️ #KFMSBulldogs
