🚨 KFMS Safety Drills
Students and staff have already begun our monthly safety drills for the school year. Each drill gives us an opportunity to practice our protocols, review expectations, and identify ways we can continue to improve.
Our first Fire Evacuation Drill was a success! We were proud of how quickly our students and staff responded, and the drill also helped us identify a few ways to strengthen our procedures moving forward.
We never know when we may need to put these skills into action, so practicing and being prepared is an important part of keeping KFMS safe. 💙🐾

This year, our 6th–8th grade athletes have filled three volleyball teams! Under the direction of coaches Casandra Cousins and Sasha Blackman, the girls are working hard, learning new skills, and building teamwork with every practice and match.

This year, we have nine 6th–8th grade athletes competing under the direction of our new coach, Eastyn Pomrankey!
Every September, our runners get the opportunity to compete close to home at the Can Am meet at Old Kettle. Our athletes competed very well this year, with a great crowd there to support them and some beautiful weather for racing!
We are proud of the hard work this team is putting in. With every race, they continue to improve, challenge themselves, and support one another. Way to go, Bulldogs! 🐾

🔬 Teamwork + Science = The Marshmallow Challenge!
Our 7th and 8th grade science students put their teamwork and problem-solving skills to the test with the Marshmallow Challenge!
Each lab team received just 20 dry spaghetti noodles, 1 yard of masking tape, 1 yard of string, and 1 marshmallow. Their challenge? Build the tallest freestanding structure possible in only 18 minutes—with one important catch: the marshmallow had to be on top!
Students had to communicate, collaborate, problem-solve, and make adjustments along the way. It was a great opportunity to put our KFMS focus on teamwork into action!

This year, KFMS increased Advisory from three 30-minute periods each week to five, giving every student dedicated Advisory time each day of the school week.
Much of this time is focused on our Character Strong lessons, helping students build skills that support relationships, belonging, responsibility, and personal growth. Advisory also gives grade levels time to check grades in Skyward, address grade-level needs, complete High School and Beyond lessons, and focus on other topics that are important to students.
Each month, our entire school works toward a common learning target. This month’s KFMS target is: “I can help create a positive community by treating others with kindness and respect.”

🇺🇸 Where Were You on September 11, 2001?
This week, KFMS students were given a challenge in our daily bulletin: Ask an adult in the building where they were on September 11, 2001, when our nation experienced a day we will never forget.
Quite a few students accepted the challenge, stopping teachers and staff members to ask about their memories of that day. It created some meaningful conversations and gave our adults an opportunity to share a piece of history they personally experienced. For our students, September 11 is something they have only learned about in books, videos, and lessons. Hearing the stories of people they know helped make that history more real and personal.
As Alan Jackson asked in his song, “Where were you when the world stopped turning?”

Our first Family Character Dare of the school year, Sweet Surprise, was included in the Welcome Back letter that was mailed home. Take a few minutes to read it with your child and challenge everyone in your family to participate!

Back-to-school shopping just got a little easier! KFMS has greatly simplified our school supply lists, keeping them focused on the basics.
Many classroom supplies will be collected by teachers and distributed as needed, and we're no longer requiring large binders. Instead, KFMS will provide the smaller classroom binders students will use throughout the year.
Families should have received a back-to-school letter in the mail with school supply lists and additional information for the upcoming school year. If you have any questions or did not receive your letter, please contact the KFMS office.

As part of our end-of-the-year celebrations, KFMS students enjoyed an Activity Afternoon filled with choices, creativity, and fun! Students selected from a variety of activities including Watercolor Painting, Sculpting, Bingo, Card Games, Board Games, Basketball, Sidewalk Chalk Art, String Jewelry Crafts, and a spirited game of 8 Base.
The afternoon gave students an opportunity to relax, connect with friends, and celebrate another successful school year. Whether they were creating artwork, competing on the court, crafting jewelry, or showing off their skills on the field, there was something for everyone to enjoy.
The weather cooperated perfectly, with the rain holding off until the final ten minutes of the event! It was a great way to wrap up the year and create a few more memories together before summer break.

Our TTK students wrapped up the school year with a fantastic end-of-year party surrounded by their friends and families. Ms. Cousins and Augie hosted an outdoor adventure celebration filled with snacks, laughter, and plenty of water games to help everyone cool off and have fun.
The weather was perfect, and families were able to spend time together celebrating all of the growth and accomplishments of our youngest learners. It was wonderful to see students, parents, and staff enjoying the afternoon and creating special memories together.
Thank you to Ms. Cousins, Augie, and all of the families who joined us to celebrate a successful year. We are so proud of our TTK students and all they have accomplished. Have a wonderful summer!
