Elevating Student Choice: Introducing the New KFHS Advisory Period

At Kettle Falls High School, we know that a one-size-fits-all school day doesn't meet the diverse needs of our students. That is why we are thrilled to announce our newly redesigned Advisory Period—a dedicated block of time in the school day designed to empower students, close academic gaps, and provide a much-needed mental reset.

Whether a student needs to catch up on a chemistry lab, clear their head with a game of basketball, or master a new hobby, Advisory provides the space to do it.

A Space for Every Student

Our Advisory menu is broken down into four key pillars to ensure every student has a "home" for that hour:

  • Academic Interventions & Study Hall: For students who are behind on specific skills, we offer targeted interventions to help bridge the gap. For those who just need time to breathe, our quiet study halls provide the perfect environment to tackle homework and stay ahead of deadlines.

  • The "Studio" Experience: We believe in the power of hands-on learning. Our studio sessions allow students to dive deeper into Art, Music, Woodshop, and Textiles, giving them extra time to work on complex projects that don't always fit into a standard class period.

  • Active Breaks: Research shows that movement improves focus. Our Open Gym sessions provide a healthy outlet for students to get active and recharge their batteries before their next round of classes.

  • Student Voice & Unique Interests: We are dedicated to building a stronger campus culture. Our Leadership Class meets during this time to give students a direct voice in school affairs. Plus, for those looking for something unique, we even offer specialized activities like Fly Tying!

Why the Change?

The goal of this new Advisory model is simple: Balance. By providing a mix of academic support and creative exploration, we are helping our students develop time-management skills while ensuring that no one falls through the cracks.

We are excited to see the amazing work our students produce in their studio sessions and the academic growth that comes from this focused support time.
