Our 4th-grade students have been diving deep into Washington State history this week. Recently, they explored the vital significance of the buffalo to early cultures and our region's history. To help process what they learned, students drew their own representations of these powerful animals, connecting historical facts with their own creativity. We are so proud of their curiosity and the way they are connecting with the stories of our state.
Ever wonder how those big snow plows stay so bright? Our students recently took part in a DOT Coloring Contest hosted by the Elementary PTO! The goal was to help our kids learn about the equipment and the people who work around the clock to keep our roads safe during the winter.
After some tough judging by the experts at the Department of Transportation, the DOT team visited us in person to show off their massive trucks and present awards. Congratulations to our winners, who received $20 gift cards thanks to the generosity of Seeker’s Bookshop in Colville and our PTO. We are so proud of our young artists and grateful to the DOT for keeping our community moving! #KettleFallsPride #CommunityPartnerships #WinterSafety

It often feels like the school year flies by, but our upcoming Spring Picture Day gives us a chance to pause and celebrate how much our students have grown. On April 23rd, we will be taking both individual photos and class group portraits. These pictures do more than just document a smile; they capture the friendships and the community your children are building here at the elementary school. Please look for order forms coming home in your student’s backpack this week. We look forward to seeing all those smiling faces!

Who knew math could be this delicious? 🍝 Our Kindergartners turned into 'Geometry Chefs' today, using cooked spaghetti to explore the world of shapes! By bending and stretching the spaghetti, these young mathematicians are learning the difference between the corners and sides of shapes in the most hands-on way possible. Whether they're crafting a wiggly triangle or a lumpy square, they are building the fine motor skills and spatial reasoning that form the foundation of future engineering and design. At Kettle Falls Elementary, we believe that when you can feel the math, you truly understand it!
There is a special kind of magic in the sound of a kickball meeting a sneaker on a sunny afternoon! Beyond the high-fives and home runs, our PE classes are where the foundations of the diamond are built. As our K–4 students master the bases and learn the strategy of the force-out, they aren't just playing kickball—they're preparing for the spring baseball and softball season. PE is the heart of our school day, teaching our students that whether you're rounding third or snagging a fly ball, teamwork and movement are always the ultimate wins!
Our 1st graders took a purposeful pause today, clearing their desks and finding a spot on the classroom rug for some morning mindfulness. It was incredible to watch our youngest learners practice 'Balloon Breathing' and find their focus through a few simple stretches. Teaching these tools early on helps our students manage big emotions and resets their 'learning brains' for the rest of the day. There is nothing quite like the quiet, calm energy of a classroom full of tiny 'Warrior Poses' to remind us all of the importance of a deep breath.
At Kettle Falls Elementary, we believe a great education begins with belonging. ❤️ This week, our students are diving into Anti-Bullying Week using our CharacterStrong curriculum! Through engaging lessons on empathy, respect, and standing up for one another, we are teaching our K-4 students that kindness is a superpower — and it goes deeper than that. It's more than just "being nice." It's about building a community where every student feels seen, heard, and valued. Ask your student what it means to "be an upstander, not a bystander."

We loved hosting High School Leadership students at the Elementary! There's nothing more powerful than an older student passing down the joy of a good book to a younger learner. A huge thank you to these future leaders for pouring back into our elementary classrooms. Our hearts (and bookshelves) are full!

Last week, KFES celebrated the 100th Day of School! From tiny "100-year-olds" roaming the halls to creative counting projects, our students had a blast celebrating this milestone. It’s amazing to see how much our Bulldogs have grown since September! 🐾

It’s National School Counseling Week, and we are shouting out our very own elementary counselor, Ryan Newby!
Whether he’s helping a student navigate a tough day, teaching a CharacterStrong lesson on kindness, or greeting everyone with a smile in the hallways, Mr. Newby makes our elementary school a brighter, safer place to learn. We are so lucky to have him on our campus!
Our 4th graders had a guest instructor for their squid dissection today: Mr. McGee! Our principal stepped back into the lab to lead the lesson, sharing his expertise and passion for discovery with our young scientists. It was an "ink-redible" hands-on experience exploring anatomy and marine biology.
Our 4th-grade scientists took a deep dive into flower anatomy this week! By studying the internal structures of plants, students explored how each part contributes to a flower's growth and life cycle. They practiced their scientific observation skills by drawing detailed cross-sections in their lab notebooks, carefully labeling each part from the petals to the pollen-bearing structures. It’s wonderful to see such precision and curiosity from our young learners!

Our students took a trip to the Gifford Ferry today! There’s nothing quite like the excitement of driving a school bus onto a boat.

3rd Grade math is going "to work!" Our students are diving into the Workplaces stations from the Bridges in Mathematics curriculum. Instead of traditional drills, they are mastering multiplication, division, and fractions through hands-on games that build both critical thinking and collaboration. It’s amazing to see how much they learn when math feels like play!
Ms. Bradeen’s 2nd graders dived deep into the world of Mother Goose today. They didn't just read poetry—they tackled tricky vocabulary using context clues and mapped out the action with their very own flowcharts! It’s amazing to see these young scholars connect the dots. 🦆
New year, new goals in Ms. Hoover’s class! ✨ Our students kicked off the week by sharing their 2026 resolutions. From mastering new skills and learning about the world to trying new foods and making more time for play, these kids are ready to grow. It’s going to be an incredible year of discovery!
