Our hallways were packed with excited students and families getting ready for a fantastic school year. A special highlight this year: welcoming our Kindergarten families right on Day 1 alongside our 1st–4th graders!

Our Kettle Falls Elementary staff spent time together during Professional Development working on strategies to give our students the best possible school day!
One of our big focuses? Planning intentional social-emotional support and creating predictable routines for when kids come in from recess. Recess is a great time to burn off energy, but transitioning back into class requires a little reset. By building smooth post-recess tasks, we help our students settle in, refocus, and dive back into learning feeling ready and supported.
To practice our own teamwork, staff jumped into a fun challenge called "Selling the Unsellable." Teams had to work together to pitch some pretty unusual items, including a high-tech "team-building clipboard" so heavy-duty it takes three staff members just to open it! (Bonus: you will never lose a sheet of paper again!)
It takes a united team to support our students, and we’re excited for an amazing year ahead together.

Our annual Seed Race was a massive hit, with students running their hearts out to take home this year's prize packets! We then cooled off and caught our breath with an awesome outdoor picnic packed with hot dogs and ice cream.
We saved the best for last, ending the day completely covered in smiles (and a lot of bright colors!) at our annual Color Run.
To our amazing families and dedicated staff: Thank you. A day like today, and a school year this successful, only happens because of your constant support, hard work, and partnership. Today, our incredible 4th graders participated in a hallmark tradition: Passages. This year looked a little different, as students selected three Character Strong traits, such as Perseverance, Responsibility, and Kindness, and used their own schoolwork and activities to prove how they exemplify these traits.
These students have been practicing and preparing for weeks to stand up and explain why they are officially ready to take the leap to middle school. Watching them present with such pride and ownership was the perfect way to wrap up their elementary years.

Our 1st graders turned into playground scientists today! Students headed outside to trace their shadows at different times throughout the day, watching closely to see how they changed. There were a lot of "aha!" moments as they discovered how their shadows grew, shrank, and shifted directions as the sun moved across the sky.
Ever wonder what math looks like in kindergarten these days? It looks like discovery! Our students have been using hands-on blocks through our Math Bridges curriculum to explore geometric concepts and build spatial awareness. When students can touch, move, and build with math, the concepts stick. We love watching our youngest learners explain their thinking and grow into confident problem-solvers.
Our 4th graders are leading the charge for #BetterWorldDay! Today they repainted our school Buddy Benches, ensuring every student at Kettle Falls Elementary has a bright, welcoming place to find a friend at recess. Small actions, big impact. 🎨 Kindness starts here!

A better world is built together. For #BetterWorldDay, our 2nd graders visited the high school shop class to build bat houses. We love seeing our older students mentor our elementary learners to protect our local wildlife. Way to take ownership of your community, Bulldogs!

Our 4th-grade students have been diving deep into Washington State history this week. Recently, they explored the vital significance of the buffalo to early cultures and our region's history. To help process what they learned, students drew their own representations of these powerful animals, connecting historical facts with their own creativity. We are so proud of their curiosity and the way they are connecting with the stories of our state.
Ever wonder how those big snow plows stay so bright? Our students recently took part in a DOT Coloring Contest hosted by the Elementary PTO! The goal was to help our kids learn about the equipment and the people who work around the clock to keep our roads safe during the winter.
After some tough judging by the experts at the Department of Transportation, the DOT team visited us in person to show off their massive trucks and present awards. Congratulations to our winners, who received $20 gift cards thanks to the generosity of Seeker’s Bookshop in Colville and our PTO. It often feels like the school year flies by, but our upcoming Spring Picture Day gives us a chance to pause and celebrate how much our students have grown. On April 23rd, we will be taking both individual photos and class group portraits. These pictures do more than just document a smile; they capture the friendships and the community your children are building here at the elementary school. Please look for order forms coming home in your student’s backpack this week. We look forward to seeing all those smiling faces!

Who knew math could be this delicious? 🍝 Our Kindergartners turned into 'Geometry Chefs' today, using cooked spaghetti to explore the world of shapes! By bending and stretching the spaghetti, these young mathematicians are learning the difference between the corners and sides of shapes in the most hands-on way possible. Whether they're crafting a wiggly triangle or a lumpy square, they are building the fine motor skills and spatial reasoning that form the foundation of future engineering and design. At Kettle Falls Elementary, we believe that when you can feel the math, you truly understand it!
There is a special kind of magic in the sound of a kickball meeting a sneaker on a sunny afternoon! Beyond the high-fives and home runs, our PE classes are where the foundations of the diamond are built. As our K–4 students master the bases and learn the strategy of the force-out, they aren't just playing kickball—they're preparing for the spring baseball and softball season. PE is the heart of our school day, teaching our students that whether you're rounding third or snagging a fly ball, teamwork and movement are always the ultimate wins!
Our 1st graders took a purposeful pause today, clearing their desks and finding a spot on the classroom rug for some morning mindfulness. It was incredible to watch our youngest learners practice 'Balloon Breathing' and find their focus through a few simple stretches. Teaching these tools early on helps our students manage big emotions and resets their 'learning brains' for the rest of the day. There is nothing quite like the quiet, calm energy of a classroom full of tiny 'Warrior Poses' to remind us all of the importance of a deep breath.
