Makayla Thompson is the new counselor at Kettle Falls Middle School. She started at the beginning of the school year and splits her time between the middle school and the elementary school. Next year, she will be at KFMS full-time. Makayla has been helping the staff with the Character Strong Tier II curriculum. Students are nominated by teachers and then assessed for different lagging skills. Makayla helps identify what skills students need assistance with and leads staff in teaching lessons on Self-Management, Self-Regulation, Relationships, and Coping. This new curriculum has created a new support system, and thanks to Makayla's work, KFMS students are being served in new and exciting ways. She also meets with students one-on-one to address different goals or situations. In February, KFMS celebrated National Counselors Week and thanked Makayla for her hard work and support!
