3rd Grade students zoomed with a world-renown Canadian scratchboard artist/amphibian zoologist named Lori Dunn. In their CREW club classes, the students studied her work to create frog scratch art. She connected them with the company Ampersand that donated real 5x7 scratchboards for the students to use. During the zoom, she expanded the student's knowledge of frogs, taught them the steps she does to complete scratchboard art, make realistic frog shapes, how to shade texture, and answered every question the students posed. It was an amazing experience to have a real professional artist (whose work sells for thousands of dollars) share her knowledge and life story with students. As payment for her time, she asked students to clean up trash in a wetlands area, so 3rd graders are making plans to fulfill her request for Better World Day.
