Owl Pellet Disection
Students in Mrs. Benner and Mr. Ballance’s class dissected disinfected owl pellets to find what an owl eats, so they could accurately place the owl in a food web to see how the owl is a part of its ecosystem. The students were very engaged in the activity, although some were a bit disturbed at the idea of combing through owl puke. In any case, they were able to identify many bones of smaller animals, hair, and even intact skulls which proves how owls consume their prey.
