Eggs-ellent Work

Sixth grade students in Mrs. Purvis’s class explored the structure of an egg and comparing each component to the structures found in a cell. The egg shell helps students visualize the function of a cell wall and membrane, the albumen represents cytoplasm, the chalaza is similar to the framework cytoskeletons provide, and the yolk is protected in the center just like membrane bound organelles in a cell. This allows students to see a real-world representation of minuscule materials as well as to take specific and purposeful notes in response to a guiding question.
