Mr. Jones's 7th grade class recently practiced their writing skills with Mrs. Edwards 4th grade class. For the student’s performance task in the “The People Could Fly Module,” students wrote children’s books retelling the Narrative of the “Life of Frederick Douglass.” Students had to draw pictures and retell the story taking in consideration for the audience they were writing to. They worked on the books for about 2 weeks. To give the students an extra incentive for writing the stories, Mr. Jones decided to have them share their stories with the 4th graders. This allowed for them to have an idea for how they needed to write their story as well as thinking about the different story telling strategies for reading to an audience.
