Diana Rubin, an eighth grader and KFMS, reads the summary of the back of a book at the Scholastic Book Fair this week. The book fair was set up inside the library of the middle school on Thursday and Friday. This time also allowed for parents and families to attend the book fair during the student led parent/teacher conferences. The students and staff all had the opportunity to preview the book fair early on Wednesday. The book fair had hundreds of titles under $5. The fair also had fun novelties that helped promote reading and writing. Certain percentages of the sales went back into the library in the form of Scholastic dollars. This enables the library to purchase new books from Scholastic for students' use. Did you know that reading just 20 minutes a day exposes your child to about 1.8 million words per year? Reading helps students develop a stronger vocabulary and those students who read for pleasure average higher grades in English, math, science and history!
