Annual Notification Announcement

As part of Kettle Falls School District’s commitment to student learning, we offer opportunities for learning enrichment through the K-12 Highly Capable Program.

Highly capable students perform or show potential for performing at significantly advanced academic levels when compared with others of their age, experiences, or environments.

Learning characteristics include:

  1. The child is an intense learner.

  2. The child is an analytical thinker.

  3. The child is a creative producer.

  4. The child is highly motivated in areas of interest.

  5. The child demonstrates High Academic Achievement. 

Any teacher, parent/guardian, student, or community member who has knowledge of the student’s abilities may refer a student for entry into the Kettle Falls Highly Capable Program. Referral forms are available in the elementary, middle and high school offices and our website. Referrals may be submitted between October 11 and October 28, 2022.

Student eligibility for the Highly Capable Program is determined through the professional judgment of a Highly Capable Committee through the use of multiple criteria:

  1. Academic achievement

  2. Teacher and parent recommendations

  3. Evidence of highly capable learning characteristics

The Highly Capable Committee will review nominations periodically throughout the year and families will be notified by mail of the screening results.

Your child will be served by one or more of the following options as determined by the building Highly Capable Team:

  • School enrichment model-differentiation in the classroom


  • After school activities like Math is Cool, Robotics, Knowledge Bowl, etc.


  • Acceleration Options – College in the Classroom, accelerated pacing, etc.


  • Differentiation in classroom

Timeline:
January 3rd, 2024 – Notification to all K-12th Grade Families 
January 19th, 2024 – All nominations due (to Elem, M.S., or H.S. office) 
January 24th, 2024 – Highly Capable Committee meets to go over assessment data 
January 29th, 2024 – Notification to parents 
February 2024 – Program begins
